SnapShot 2- Mychaela Brown

One day my sister, her friends, and I all went sledding down a slope on Alum Creek. It was a cold, January afternoon I believe. It was actually sometime around New Year’s. We were all sitting around in my sister’s boyfriend’s basement, Tylen is his name. “We should go sledding!” he said. My sister Cheyla and I looked at him with uncertainty. I had never been sledding before, but I was down with whatever. So we all decided on going. I already had a coat, but I had to borrow gloves from my sister. There was about five of us, all packed in a tiny car like crayons in the crayon box. When I got there, I got very nervous all of a sudden. Like I said before, I’d never been sledding. The hill looked awfully steep. I said, “I think I’m just gonna stay in the car”. Our friend Isaiah and I stayed back. I decided to let the others go first. It was a really long walk to the actual hill, which I wasn’t too fond of because it was really cold. After them seeing them go down the hill, I decided to give it a try. I got my sled and began to walk. “Girl, come on!”. My sister was a few feet ahead of me. When I got to the hill, I realized there were rocks at the bottom. This made me a lot more nervous than I was before. When I got to the top, all I could think was, “don’t hit the rocks”. I went, and I was going as fast as a car on the freeway. The ride wasn’t smooth either. I was exhilarating but nerve racking at the same time. When I got to the bottom I said, “Alright, that’s enough”.

  1. Mychaela Brown,

I love the winter and being able to sled, it really does get cold. I felt you when you said you needed that extra pair of gloves.I liked when you explained what you were thinking at the top of the hill before sliding down really fast "When I got to the top, all I could think was, “don’t hit the rocks." this really captured the moment for me.

  2. Mychaela,
I really like how you said, "There was about five of us, all packed in a tiny car like crayons in the crayon box." I can really relate to that because being in the military, I feel that way as well. I strongly dislike the cold, but I do like sledding so I'm not sure if I would have made the walk up the hill. I remember worrying about hitting a tree when I went for the first time so I understand why you worried about the rocks. I think that you did well with details to get us to understand this scene.
