Journal 2 By Abshir Said

Hi My name is Abshir Said and I'm a Freshman at OSUN Looking to major in Business information systems, in my free time a like to Play Basketball and soccer and watch my little siblings, I was raised in London but moved to the U.S when I was 12 and have been living here ever since.

A theme that I noticed while reading The house on mango street was the shame that Esperanza feels about her name and also her living conditions and financial situation, this was shown when the nun pointed at here house and  Esperanza expressed that she wanted her own house that she can be proud of.

She also expressed how her name was passed on from her great-grandmother and she said that her great-grandmother was forced into marriage and she wonders if she looked out of the window in regret of what she could've done with her life, Esperanza expressed how she didn't want to end up like that and wanted to achieve accomplishments in life before marrige.

One of my highlighted passages so far is the "My Name" one because she explains what her name means in different languages and how her name carries opposite meanings in English and in Spanish, I chose this passage because it encompasses what I wrote in the first paragraph about the stand out theme of the book so far.
