Part 1-A chapter I really like in The house on mango street was Louie, his cousin & his other cousin. The theme that's very important in this chapter is innocence of the kids and how they really don't know what's going one in the world. This is shown when they were picked up by louie cousin in a stolen car and they were making comments about how good the police siren lights looked because they didn't know that they were coming for them.
A line that supports this in the chapter is "Marin screamed and we ran down the block to where the cop car's siren spun a dizzy blue".and later where Esperanza says "They put handcuffs on him and put him in the back -seat of the cop car, and we all waved as they drove away".This showed how little they knew about the real world and consequences.
Part 2-My cousins were a big influence on me growing up especially when they were older then I was and had more experience in life I used to do stuff to mimic them which I think is natural in someone when they are older then you and you look up to them. But when I grew older and started developing my own life I grew out of that.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, I thought my older cousins were the coolest and would always try to be around them so I wouldnt feel left out of the fun. I think as a kid we try to be just like that "cool person" but as we get older and develop our own identity we want to be recognized for who we are on our own.

Abshir,
ReplyDeleteI agree that this chapter did show a theme of how blind they were to how the real world works and consequences that follow with certain actions. Sometimes we do not realize how bad our actions are until we pay the price. Consequences help us learn from our mistakes.
I like the way you said that your cousins have influenced you. I think most of us can relate that we want to be like someone else, then we grow and develop our own unique personalities .
I enjoyed your journal entry!
