Journal 8 - Alia Eddauod
I saw my biggest personal growth this semester in my reading skills. I learned how to make connections between stories and also to my personal life. In the past I have always used highlighters and post it notes to mark sentences or pages that I want to go back to. Professor Lohre taught me how to do more than just highlight, but write thoughtful comments in the margins of the books and the tops and the bottoms of the pages as well. Not only with highlighter, but I filled my books with pens and different colored pencils to make things easier to find and conversate with the book. Which all of that lead me to better writing and speaking skills as well. In the beginning I found it hard to think of things to write about, but towards then end of this semester it got much easier for me.I will be able to use these skills in other classes in the future.
My most enjoyable part of this class was the tea time! It was nice to be able to have that ten minute break.I really enjoyed our group discussions over our readings. It was like a book club.

Alia,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed tea time as well. It was much needed. Sometimes you just need a little break, and that gave a little time. I enjoyed the books we read so much. I agree that I too learned to make connections to my reading, and that I felt made me want to read more. I enjoyed your readings, and the artsy things you post. You are talented. Have a great summer.
"It was like a book club." That was my thought as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you wrote, and I use to mark up my books as you described. With active reading, I can now be more effective in my note-taking. Also, I saw your writing and speaking skills develop through the class. Enjoy your summer and keep up the great work.
