1)Clarett is forced to figure who he truly is in prison and what his purpose is for the rest of his life he's forced to face reality because he has a kid a struggling girlfreind on the outside, he is forced to expand his mind past basketball and the streets.Maurice knew from the moment he stepped into prison that this is not were he wanted to spend the rest of his life it and he promised himself he would get on the straight and narrow when he got out.
His response was to put his head down and put the work in to become and better aman and learn to expand his brain and ideas by reading self-development books and looking into a real career for after prison which was a Senior care center he's hoping to start.
2)The most important event in this chapter that changes Claretts direction in life is when the old inmate that he referred to as "Adam" giving him the book As A Man Thinketh because this got Clarett into reading and working on himself and his thinking process.This snowballed into Clarett reading the dictionary and changing his outlook in life.
3)A part of the chapter that I personally related to was him saying he's going to work hard to get out of there and will put in the work needed to get where he needs to be I related to that because I believe in working out your problems with yourself first.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you on your important event choice, that Adam wanting Maurice to have the book benefited him. It was shocking that this was his first book. I feel Maurice developed new skills to him such as liking reading and learning during this chapter. I think Maurice learns a lot about himself during this chapter such as having an interest in elder care.

I like that you pointed out how he knew from the moment he entered jail he decided he didn't want to be there forever. he had a whole life outside that he needed to return to and continue.
